A great way to tell an epic tale! A fun, entertaining adventure.

This was a full audio drama (produced by Dirk Maggs in the U.K in the 1990's) that told the story of one of the greatest comic book stories of all time; The Death and Return of Superman. I first heard this when I was little after my father ordered the cassette tape version out of some throwaway catalog. I remember my dad, my brother and I listening to this radio play having known about the death of Superman through the media frenzy of the time. None of us had read comics back then so we really didn't know what to expect. I had some experience with old time radio shows from the 30's and 40's from listening to reproduced broadcasts on cassette so I knew how to play this radio drama in my mind. It was thrilling. Just thrilling. I was a casual Superman fan back then (much more now) so it was very distressing to experience his death. The great thing was that towards the climax of the story, he returned and beat the bad guys, with a little help of course.
All in all, this is great for kids and adults. A fun, exciting way to learn about one of the most momentous occasions in the history of comics!

Keeps to the traditions of the original pre-television radio dramas of the1940s

I didn't realize when I ordered it that "Superman: Doomsday and Beyond..." is the same recording as "Superman Lives!". I still enjoy the story.
This is a 2-CD BBC audio production. I enjoyed the radio drama and sound effects which (in my humble opinion) keep to the traditions of the original pre-television radio dramas of the1940s, and the acting and the sound quality are much better. I would recommend this for the die-hard S-man fan or collector.
