Shrinkage and Warpage

The author covers systematically the subject of shrinkage and warpage of plastic parts made by injection molding. First he defines both and lists factors causing them. In the next part of the book, he deals with controlling mold and post-mold shrinkage and warpage in a great detail, including troubleshooting. Another important topic covered is the computer-aided analysis (CAA). The author discusses the capabilities and limitations of CAA and its applications as a tool for predicting what will happen in the mold and to the molding. A considerable attention is given to case studies using ample illustrations and thorough analysis. One full chapter contains data, such as tables, charts and figures for different polymers unfilled and filled, effects of various process parameters, pressure volume temperature (PVT) curves for several major plastics, general shrinkage characteristics and comparative mold shrinkage values for a great number of plastic materials. There are two appendices, one containing conversion factors and equivalents, the other listing abbreviations, acronyms and material names. Glossary, references and bibliography are also included. The book will be a valuable addition to the library of those, who design parts, molds and processes as well as of those who run the production.

In japan, there are not books about warpage for injection molding.
So this book is very valuable for me.

This book uses simple expression,
But contents is comprehensive about warpage.

I enjoyed to read chapter 10 Case Studies
that is often occurred at my workplace.
I thought that even if countries are different,
the trouble and unexpected accident are the same.

But this is written by English, so I check 4 stars.

The piece has four main divisions and is based on prayers by the Danish philosopher and theologian S�ren Kierkegaard (1813-1855). It is written for chorus, large orchestra, soprano solo and incidental tenor and alto solos and was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Music Foundation in 1942, but because of World War II and other interruptions, only completed twelve years later. It was premiered on 3 December 1954 by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Cecilia Society Chorus, and soprano Leontyne Price, with Charles Munch conducting. The prayers chosen by Barber were harsh discourses on the vague practices of the Danish church and are a direct reflection of Barber's orthodox Presbyterian-Quaker background. Barber once said "One finds here three basic truths: imagination, dialectic, and religious melancholy. The truth S�ren Kierkegaard sought after was a truth which was a truth for me." The first part speaks of "God the unchangeable" and begins in a chant performed by unaccompanied male voices in a Gregorian style. It then continues with the orchestra responding in imitative counterpoint until the chorus joins in climax on the words "Thou art unchanging," repeating the theme of the text. In the second section, which is recited in the first person, the soprano solo receives the melody from an oboe solo. This minimalism, however, is changed in the third section that, in the thickness of the lines, is reminiscent of Russian choral writing. This prayer grows in both the chorus and the orchestra, until it expands into a dance which ends with the "Father in heaven" chorus. One of Barber's most personal works, Prayers of Kierkegaard reflects both the philosopher's and the composer's belief in the power of God's redemption through affirmative human deeds and personal self-awareness.

Wow! What a Great Book!

While there may not be a "perfect" guide for digital photography, this one comes as close as I've ever seen.

It covers everything from choosing a camera (and how to get the most out of it) to editing, printing and even using the web.

It even covers areas that many adults seem to have problems with, like the "Reality Check" regarding built in flash.

Focus, composition, exposure and even ISO are all covered. Granted, some subjects are just touched on rather than discussed in depth but remember the intended reader. (In my case, my 12-year old.) If the kid really wants to learn about any given subject there are countless specialized books to be found.

Overall I have to say that I highly recommend this book.

I'd even go so far to say that I would even buy it for an adult, especially one that might be a bit technophobic.

Good for adults but not for young kids.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good book, but it isn't for young kids. The pages are filled with important information, and the models in the shots are all about 8-12 years old, but the content is too technical. Readers should be about 16 or older to get the most from this book. It's fine for adults. I might use 15% of this book as a guide to explain photo concepts to older kids.

I've been teaching photo classes at college level for more than 30 years and I started giving classes to kids a few years ago. The difference in the approach is huge! If kids don't get an immediate benefit from a lesson, like in 5 minutes, they'll tune out. I had hoped this book would give me new insights on how to make digital photography more fun and interesting for 8-10 year-olds but it will not. Look for a book that has step-by-step directions on how to take specific shots like a close-up bug photo, a group shot of friends, a sunset, a skateboard rider, etc.

Modern cameras do all the heavy lifting for photographers so almost no knowledge is needed about resolution settings, compression, film scanners, etc. Kids don't care about that stuff. They want to make pictures right now.

Bottom line: get a book that talks to kids in a way that kids talk to each other. And when you find that book, let me know.

great book for kids or beginners

this book covers the basics. easily written for a kid to understand. my daughter is 11 and that seems about the right level for her. i wish it covered more setting up a good composition. it covers the basics on camera use and scanners and fixing photos after in the computer. i wish photo books would stick to teaching how to take good pictures and not so much on fixing them up in the computer afterwards, but every book seems to spend a lot of time on that. overall, its the best book i could find for a kid. it's written in language that i think they will relate to well.

About the Author
Shannon Lindsey Blanton is a professor in the Department of Government at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she is also the inaugural dean of the UAB Honors College. She is a past vice provost for undergraduate programs, department chair and undergraduate coordinator, and has served nationally as a facilitator for leadership development in higher education. A graduate of Georgia College (B.A.), the University of Georgia (M.A.), and the University of South Carolina (Ph.D.), she has received numerous research awards and professional recognitions. She has served on a number of editorial boards, including those for four of the discipline's foremost journals: International Studies Quarterly, Foreign Policy Analysis, International Interactions, and International Studies Perspectives. She has published articles on U.S. foreign policy decision-making, with a focus on the determinants and consequences of U.S. arms transfers and foreign aid. Her work has also examined the significance of human rights concerns in global political and economic interactions.

Charles William Kegley is a past president of the International Studies Association, and has been serving the past two decades on the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs. Kegley holds the title of Pearce Distinguished Professor of International Relations Emeritus at the University of South Carolina. A graduate of the American University (B.A.) and Syracuse University (Ph.D.) and a Pew Faculty Fellow at Harvard University, Kegley previously served on the faculty at Georgetown University, and has held visiting professorships at the University of Texas, Rutgers University, the People's University of China, and the Institute Universitaire de Hautes �tudes Internationales Et du Developpement in Geneva Switzerland. He is also a recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award of the Foreign Policy Analysis Section of the International Studies Association. A founding partner of Kegley International, Inc. (a publishing, research, and consulting foundation), Kegley has authored more than 50 scholarly books and over 100 articles in journals.
