A great easy to understand and implement book. Great exercises to get started with also.

I read it in one day. The first book I have found that actually explains the "feelings" that you get. What sensations you might feel, what is to be expected while you are learning. I took pages of notes for fast reference. I did some of the exercises and plan to do more. I am not a medium, I have not been "aware" since I was very young. I am very intuitive and want to be able to serve. I think this book is an excellent stepping stone for Light Workers. I feel that in time and doing the exercises in the book, I will be able to connect with Spirit and feel more presence. I don't know that I am a "Medium" or ever will be, but this book is the perfect thing to be able to make that next step on the path.
I just loved it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to start their journey or to continue one already started. It is written so that anyone can understand it and connect with it. I am grateful for the opportunity to read it.

I've been sitting with my husband Victor who is a s�ance medium in s�ance for 11 years now and everything that she includes in her mediumship instructions is exactly what I've seen happen over and over again in our s�ances. Spirit is always there and willing and excited to talk to loved ones. We've had many incidents of closure and forgiveness asked and given through the years. Easy Reading and Learning

This book couldn't be any more user friendly. Even tho I have a background in psychic readings and 3 years of classwork in these areas, it feels good to go further with a new author (to me, anyway). You validate and add to what I have learned and worked on in my studies. You suggest a very gentle way of connecting with spirit, a progressive way that I can practice in my quiet hours. I did this in reverse order tho. I found this book first and the remedial one second. I don't care really because it's all great, easily absorbed information. I just have one question. When you are talking to spirit and asking questions for the readee, do you ask quietly in your head and just give the answers as they come forward, or do you ask spirit questions out loud so the readee can hear what you are asking? Thanks, Emily for these books which are filled with suggestions for success. The reader can pick and choose which info they feel comfortable working with. Great information to go with how I work now. John R. Reitz (Ph.D., University of Chicago, 1949) was a member of the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory from 1949 to 1954, and a consultant to the Lab until 1964. He was a faculty member of Case Institute of Technology (now Case Western Reserve University) from 1954 to 1965 and was appointed Professor of Physics in 1960. From 1965 to 1987 he was Manager of the physics department at Ford Motor Company. Currently he is a consultant in physics and educational software.

Dr. Reitz has written approximately 50 scientific papers in the fields of solid state physics, magnetohydrodynamics, energy conversion, and applications of electromagnetic theory. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society.

The book was in very good conditions and was inexpensive. The book have a notation that could be a little heavy at the begining, but the theory is quite well.

Not to be used as a reference or self study

I'm writing this review to bolster the review written by glires. I believe that glires's review is very accurate. This book assumes the reader already has a working knowledge of electromagnetism.
This is not a book for self-study. If you want a self study book (or a light reference), I would recommend using David J. Griffiths book or some other book for introductory EMAG. (The book I originally learned from is no longer in print so I can't really recommend it).
That being said, once you get into chapter 3, the book is excellent. This book also uses the paradigm that solving problems is how you learn the theory. So, as glires noted, much of the proofing is left for you to do in the problems at the end of each chapter.
Also as glires noted, this is not a useful reference. There is no single location where all constants and formulas are listed.

Detailed, but not thorough

This text covers several topics that other books tend to overlook, making it a frequent choice for undergraduate courses. However, the effectiveness of the book is dependent primarily on the quality of the counterpart teacher, as the book is quite difficult to understand on its own.
Many of the proofs in the book omit the most difficult and complicated steps, which are above the level of an undergraduate to be able to work on their own. Also, the book chooses to rigorously prove certain Electromagnetic properties while completely omitting other while still assuming that the reader has a full knowledge of both.
As a reference, this book also falls short in that, in the fourth edition at least, most of the important constants and equations are left scattered throughout the text and not included in the summaries. Also, many of the fundamental mathematical tools are not presented in their entirety and instead rely on the completion of the problems at the end of the chapters. While this is good in that it motivates the student to do the calculations themselves, it offers no recourse to a student who has made a mistake in any problem or who lacks a preexisting intuitive knowledge of the material.

The neo-liberal economic policies—privatization, free trade, slashed social spending—that the Chicago School and the economist Milton Friedman have foisted on the world are catastrophic in two senses, argues this vigorous polemic. Because their results are disastrous—depressions, mass poverty, private corporations looting public wealth, by the author's accounting—their means must be cataclysmic, dependent on political upheavals and natural disasters as coercive pretexts for free-market reforms the public would normally reject. Journalist Klein (No Logo) chronicles decades of such disasters, including the Chicago School makeovers launched by South American coups; the corrupt sale of Russia's state economy to oligarchs following the collapse of the Soviet Union; the privatization of New Orleans's public schools after Katrina; and the seizure of wrecked fishing villages by resort developers after the Asian tsunami. Klein's economic and political analyses are not always meticulous. Likening free-market shock therapies to electroshock torture, she conflates every misdeed of right-wing dictatorships with their economic programs and paints a too simplistic picture of the Iraq conflict as a struggle over American-imposed neo-liberalism. Still, much of her critique hits home, as she demonstrates how free-market ideologues welcome, and provoke, the collapse of other people's economies. The author of No Logo: Taking Aim at the Brand Bullies, Klein links disparate events throughout the 20th and 21st centuries—the collapse of the Soviet Union, the atrocities in Chile under Pinochet, the post-tsunami crises in Sri Lanka, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the invasion of Iraq—to reveal the two-faced nature of capitalism. Critics agreed that the book—accessible and impeccably researched—is an important contribution to the debate over globalization. Some were less taken with Klein’s thesis, however. The Washington Post noted that Klein sees too many conspiracies instead of "the all-too-human pattern of chaos and confusion, good intentions and greed, playing out in the wake of catastrophes." Fantastic and Scary Book

This is a very good book indeed. It is powerful, eye-opening, and disturbing. Kline gives a gripping narative for the most part. I say for the most part because sometimes the narative seems repetitive. The book also appears to be well documented.

Naomi Kline paints a picture of how the corporate world, neoliberal economists, and polticians worked to take advantage of communities and countries in shock because of some calamity—political, economic, and natural. They move in and inact free-trade, drastric cuts in govenrment, reduced taxes (for the rich), dump price controls, and deregulation. These changes benefit no one except the rich, the poltical leaders, and foreign corporations, who are aften one and the same. The poor in these places go from worse to worser.

The book begins with shock treatment experiments funded by the CIA with possible applications to interagation. The idea was to wipe a person brain clean. They also developed sensory deprivation, and thus acting together to destroy the self to be built anew. The next preliminary topic is the Chicago School Economics led by Milton Freedman at the University of Chicago which developed neoliberalism, which to me is a misnomer, seeing how it is a very conservative doctrine.

The book, then moves on to the historical picture to see how these ideas were practice in the real world outside of the academy. South America is presented with the shock of political upheaval, starting with Chile. Also in South America, it discusses the debt crisises that occurred following the ouster of strong arm governments. It covers Poland, Russia, and South Africa with their peaceful transfer of power with the economic shift inserted in with little notice, putting the poor in dire straits. It also goes into United States' shocks. One is the Iraq war after 9/11 and the privatization of war. Privatization is also shown to be at work in the hurricane Katrina disaster to the detriment of the New Orleans poor. Coverage is given to the Asian Tiger's financial currency debacle and the recovery from the Tsunami that hit many coastal areas in the Indian ocean basin in 2004.

In the last section, Kline does hold out some hopefulness, as she describes people's efforts in recent years to counter the neoliberals and corporatists to take over of many country's economies.

I recommend this book, especially for those who have a concern for the poor. A Prophetic Blueprint for an Imperfect World

This is one of the most important books I've ever read, with more information, analysis and explanations packed into its 700 pages than several other books I can think of combined. The chapters on Russia, Poland and Israel could easily be full-length books in themselves. Klein’s book is written in a brilliant journalistic style, with all the dots being connected, nothing left dangling, no strings unattached. The footnotes alone explain more about the dystopian world view of Milton Friedman than you'll find in other books. Even the "acknowledgment" section at the end is more interesting than most book reviews published in the Sunday edition of the New York Times.

And when I finished the “Shock Doctrine”, I realized it was published before the financial meltdown and crash of 2008, before Obama’s first term, before drone assassinations, before Edward Snowden's NSA whistleblowing, before Greece and the financial crisis with the EU, reconstruction demands from the World Bank, Germany, the IMF; before the regime change of Lybia, before ISIS, wars in Syria, Yemen, Ukraine; before the oil glut destroyed international economic stability, and long before the 2016 presidential election.

But Klein's book is a perfect fit in an imperfect world, a perfect prophetic blueprint for what has come before now, what came after, and what may probably come in the near future.

Essential reading, The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein:
This is a well-researched book that explains the Milton Friedman-based ideals/agenda of the Military Industrial Complex:

1) Privatization (all resources/production taken from the public/government and put into the hands of corporations)
2) Government deregulation (no controls/restrictions on those corporations - no FDA or EPA, no health/safety rules, no anti-trust laws, minimum wage, taxes or restrictions on fraud and price gouging)
3) No social spending (everything for the corps, nothing for the people).
AND not just for the U.S., but worldwide.

In the U.S., champions of the Friedman doctrine have been successful at privatizing the military, prisons, banking, and are hard at work attempting to take public lands (national parks), the post office and the educational system. In every country that has fallen to fascist Corporatism economics, it's been disastrous for the population. The book has numerous examples of the unconscionable lengths to which these factions will stoop in order to advance their power, ownership and control.

The book also details how disasters have been exploited in order to quickly wrest control of desirable property out of the hands of stunned populations (New Orleans-Katrina, Sri Lanka tsunami, 911/Iraq oil, etc). I suspect this is the true explanation for the geo-engineered weather project... rather than to mitigate global warming - it may be intentionally designed to create disasters that drive populations off their lands, forcing people to sell to Corporatists who rebuild purely for profit motives, permanently displacing the former inhabitants.

Great story about memory loss and love.

And Everyday the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer’ is a novella about the love one man has for his son, grandson, and wife. The man is slowly slipping into a state of memory loss. His greatest fear is that he will soon not remember any of his most beloved memories.

In a letter to the reader at the beginning of the story, Backman states,’This is a story about memories and letting go. It’s a love letter and a slow farewell between a man and his grandson, and between a dad and his boy.’ He also explains that writing this story was a type of therapy for him as he too has experience with a loved one with memory loss.

As I began to read this story, I soon realized that this is both a similar and different type of story to Backman’s other works. It is similar in that it portrays an older person and their relationships. It is different in that the story line is not as straight forward as other Backman’s works.

The story is told through the perspective of the grandfather who is sinking deeper into dementia. It switches between the grandfather speaking with his grandson, Noah, his son,Ted, and his wife who had previously passed away. His thought process is scattered but at the same time deeply symbolic. He likens his brain to a park square that gets smaller and smaller each day and the ‘way home’ is his process to remember details of his life each morning. He then explains that the objects in the park symbolize different memories.

Although this was less of an easy read then I found Backman’s other books, to be, this book is just as amazing. It gives an honest look at how hard and complicated it must be to lose someone you love before they actually die. Backman does a wonderful job of panting a picture of someones mind as they are mentally slipping away.

Another amazing read from Backman and a quick read as it’s only ninety-six pages. Backman has an amazing gift for writing characters that I makes me feel that I know them personally. This is one of those books that is a must read for all.

a love story and a good bye to his grandson wrapped ...

This book was suggested to me by my Son. He's in college and hes the kind of man (will always be my little boy) that holds his emotions and thoughts to himself. So when he said 'Momma you need to red this book, it had me in tears.' Tears ?!? My son does show emotions?!? So I ordered right then....... And wow, what a touching story, a love story and a good bye to his grandson wrapped up in one.

It will make you cry. However, what insight into the world of the elderly with dementia or Alzheimer's.... This is beautifully done.

This is such an amazing book, sensitive and with insight into the world of an aging brilliant man. The wonderful relationship with his grandson who understood his fears and who guided him and kept him safe and secure in his last steps in to 'space' I recommend it to every person who has the fear of losing your memory!
