Mon petit cochon...

That means (I think) "my little pig". However, if you buy this book, don't think of teensy, cute piglets. Just think of cuts of pork. And there are some excellent sections on those. If you like pork but have been disappointed in the "other white meat" recently because it's so lean it turns out dry, etc., this is the book for you. My daughter and I took a class at a Sonoma cooking school. It was called "Belly Up!" and was all about pork bellies, how to cure them, make your own bacon, pancetta, etc. So I HAD to have this book because it contains directions for making those things as well as some wonderful recipes. Just to name a few (be still my heart), "Bacon Wrapped Tenderloin with Mushroom Stuffing", "Pork Stroganoff", "Toad in the Hole with Onion Gravy", "Pork Scallops in Parmesan Crust", Asian recipes, Mexican recipes, and (hold your applause) "Sticky Barbecued Ribs" that are slow roasted for a couple of hours, brushed with a wonderful barbecue sauce that can be prepared days in advance. The recommendation is that you purchase your pork at a good local butcher or a supermarket that buys from local sources. It might cost a little more but, in my opinion, if you want to make something special, get special at the beginning. Have I developed a "passion for pork". You bet I have! You will too once "Pig" is on your cookbook shelf.

Another Frightening Masterpiece !!!!

I am so excited….I just got my Project Series fix !!!! Alex Lukeman has again kept me on the edge of my seat, sweaty palms and heart pounding as I read his ninth in the wonderful Project Series called Black Rose.

When reading the last sentence, I closed my eyes, thinking back to the day I read the first release in the series White Jade. I walked to my handy lap top and saw I reviewed White Jade on Amazon in 2011 and smiled as I read my review.To quote , When I began White Jade, I could see this was going to take me to places I loved. Murder, foreign intrigue, FBI, CIA, plots and plenty of action. So after eight more books to his credit, Alex Lukeman has given me this same feeling over and over; it has remained true, it has never gone away in all these years!

The only difference with White Jade to Black Rose is the knowing the characters he has brought to this story, At first they were strangers, now dear friends I worry about as much as a family member.

Elizabeth Harker, has nerves of steel, showing great strength, fortitude, and extreme resilience in the world she lives in. Having ‘the ear’ to the president adds to the story along with her team of hard working individuals adding the spice and flavor. Stephanie her hard working assistant and ‘hacker extraordinaire’ , Nick, Selena, Lamont and Ronnie round out this wonderful team .

You must start from the beginning to ‘really appreciate’ the essence of this although the books are stand alone…..For folks like me though, with a bit of the ADD gene, the series one through nine will not disappoint in any way. So if you like books Like Indanna Jones meets James Bond, and have a hankering to see exotic places….This series is a must!!

High five again Alex……Cannot wait for the tenth!!!!!

Another great book from an amazing author

As always, Alex Lukeman never fails to bring you a great book, I just can't seem to get enough. I could go on reading his books forever. I get lost in the stories and the characters. Waiting for the next book, hope it will be soon. The story brought a lot of education to the readers regarding geography and historical facts. Thank you Mr. Lukeman, great wealth of information, great read.

Another great addition to a great series. It is well written, plot is fast paced, descriptive scenes and great characters. After nine books, we've seen the characters evolve and developed an attachment to them and look forward to what comes next for them and the challenges they face, both personally and professionally. About the Author

Max Weber (1864-1920) was one of the founders of contemporary social science and arguably the greatest influence on the evolution of sociology--its theory and historical linkages. His work focused on the areas of the history and theology of religion, political systems, and organizational theory and behavior. He studied at the University of Heidelberg followed by the University of Berlin. After completing his advanced studies, he became professor of economics first at Freiburg University and then at the University of Heidelberg.

There is a small problem with the English-language title of this volume, "Ancient Judaism." Weber produced the studies included in the book in the years leading up to the First World War, in the absence of much the material and textual evidence produced by archeology, and under the influence of the "Higher Criticism," which insisted that texts describing the earlier period were all late inventions. Despite this, he managed to produce a first-rate analysis of the social foundations of Biblical Israel. Not "Judaism," the religion of the synagogue, but rather the life of an ancient people of the eastern Mediterranean.

Indeed, the closing chapters, on the post-exilic period and the emergence of Second-Temple Judaism, are the weakest of the book. This is partly because he insisted on applying his theories of the social role of sects to the religion of the whole population of Persian and Hellenistic Judea, instead of treating it as a national religion fracturing into sects under the pressure of foreign occupation. Nor did Weber have time to reconsider his conclusions, or his presuppositions. "Das Antike Judentum" was published as it stood in 1921; the author's death in 1920 having prevented revisions, or the carrrying out of his planned analyses of Psalms and Job, which might have been included (along with related studies of Talmudic Judaism, and early Christianity, and Islam).

Max Weber was one of the founders of modern sociology, and although his reputation has fluctuated over the decades, his ideas and methods remain basic to sociological discourse, and appear frequently in other fields. It is not surprising that Weber's discussions of pre-Exilic Israel and Judah retain their value. Not greatly concerned with the absolute or relative dating of the texts, he studied them for what they revealed about economic conditions and social roles. A great familiarity with other pre-modern societies replaced Semitic philology or Christian theology as his guides. His brief analysis of the Sabbatical Year and the Jubilee as means of maintaining social equilibrium, and with it the population of free peasants to fill the militia, was based on his knowledge of ancient Greece, but has since found some confirmation in the concerns of early Babylonian rulers to prevent the impoverishment of the military class.

Besides its continuing value as a study of the Biblical period, Weber's "Ancient Judaism" is a particularly good example of his sociological method in action. The source material is readily available to the student, if not already familiar. In this it is unlike his fascinating studies of China and India, in which he not only drew on translations and secondary sources, but on materials not likely to be familiar to most readers, and in some cases is rather difficult to obtain. (Nineteenth-century Indology and Sinology not having a large place in most libraries, for example.) It is therefore much easier to pick up what he left out, what he considered significant, and to decide whether his conclusions now seem warranted by the evidence.

About the Author
Dan Gheno is a New York artist whose work can be found in many private and public collections including the Museum of the City of New York, The New Britain Museum of American Art and the Butler Institute of American Art. He teaches figure drawing and painting at the Art Students League and the National Academy School of Fine Arts, both in New York City and is a professor emeritus at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Connecticut. Excellent Guide for Minecraft

I gifted a copy of this to my son, who is new to Minecraft. I'd heard of it, but wasn't sure what it was all about. My son raved about this guide to the point that I read it as well, and I can say it's a very interesting game and this great book fills in all the details to become a good player. With my new understanding of the game, my son has convinced me to start playing as well. Great resource guide for newbies (like me) or for more experienced players looking to get more out of their game.

what happened to his book called "you suck at minecraft" like that noob guide thingy? that was pretty good. Any one else notice it disappear of the kindle store? Well anyways his books are pretty useful and i would reccomend this over mboo guides. PS why call it block games its called minecraft!
